Christmas Book Advent Calendar: Day 1-What is Christmas?

What Is Christmas?
What is Christmas by Michelle Medlock Adams

Our activity for the day is a Christmas symbols box. I purchased a small metal box at Hobby Lobby and placed Christmas items inside.

Candy Cane: Represents the crook or staff of the shepherds who came and marveled at the baby Jesus. Christ is called the Good Shepherd. (Luke 2:8-9; John 10:11)

Angel: Angels announced Christ's birth to the Shepherds. (Luke 2: 10-11)

Gift: Wise Men brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to Jesus. Christ is God's greatest gift to the world. (Matthew 2:11; John 3:16)

Bell: Lost sheep are found by the ringing of a bell. It signifies guidance and return and that we are all precious in the eyes of our Heavenly Father

Tree: The tree of life whose branches are always green and pointed heavenward. (John 3:16)

Wreath: Heavenly Father's love for us is eternal. (Romans 8:35)

Star: The Star of Bethlehem guided the wise men to Jesus and was a sign of his birth.(Matthew 2:9-10)

Candle: Jesus Christ is the light of the world. (Mosiah 16: 9)

I will talk about the objects symbolism and meaning as we look through the box. It is something my family can use for many Christmases to come. I am looking forward to beginning the month of December by focusing on the true meaning and spirit of Christmas.

Reading Inspiration: Easter Books for Kids

Easter is coming and I have been searching for Easter and spring themed books to read to my son. Most of my finds were secular. You can feature books you already own about ducks, flowers, rabbits etc. The library is also a good resource.

My Favorite Books for Babies

I am dying to purchase a few new books because I have largely memorized the majority of our board book collection. Here are a few of my sons favorite books at around 12 months old.  Even if you do not have children books make wonderful presents.

Reading Inspiration: St. Patrick's Day Books

I love children's books and have a slight addiction to them. Reading books about a holiday can help children enjoy the day more. The pictures and stories bring the traditions to life. Here are some fun St. Patrick's day books for your family.
