Our family will read the second chapter of Luke by candlelight before bedtime.
We will also be watching some short nativity videos. These movies are brand new and beautifully made. You can watch the videos for free.

Today we made magic reindeer food for our neighbors. We used stale oats from our pantry and sprinkles. You can also use birdseed and cheerios for variety. Do not use glitter as it harms the animals digestive systems.

At our house we love the entire series of "David" books by David Shannon. This book is about a lovable little boy who can't help getting into mischief. It's Christmas, David! is a great read for little boys of all ages.
Today we are going to make sugar cookies and decorate them. I use this recipe from Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice.

Today as our activity we will be delivering gifts to my son's nursery teachers. We made them Eye Spy Christmas Ornaments. I bought empty plastic bulbs at Hobby Lobby. I filled them with Christmas confetti, buttons and miniature ornaments. I used Poly-Pellets as the filler.

Today we played with my flannel board Rudolph and changed the color of his nose. This is an activity I had from teaching preschool. There is a poem that goes along with the colored noses.

| If You Take a Mouse to the Movies
We will be making popcorn and watching a Christmas movie. Watching movies is a special treat for my son since it is not something he is normally allowed to do. My son is only a toddler so we will be choosing a short movie. I am planning on ordering a few from Netflix and then letting my son choose. Here are a few I am considering:
The Mickey's Christmas Carol DVD contains the short films Mickey's Christmas Carol, Pluto's Christmas Tree, The Small One and Santa's Workshop. I grew up watching these movies at Christmas.
If you have not seen Shaun the Sheep you must give it a try. I haven't seen this particular movie but it looks cute.

Christmas Book Advent Calendar: Day 8 and 9-Small One andGingerbread Baby
The Small One, is one of our thrift store finds. Unfortunately, the book is now out of print. My son loves this book and requests it all the time. If you can get your hands on a copy it is a sweet story. The Small One board book is based on the Disney animated movie.

| Gingerbread Baby
Today we will be reading Gingerbread Baby, making gingerbread playdough and playing with gingerbread bean bags. I found the idea for the gingerbread activities at Oopsey Daisy.
I used this craft kit from Hobby Lobby to make gingerbread bean bags. I purchased them half off so they were a good buy and faster than making my own version.
We also played with these magnetic gingerbread people and house. I had these from my teaching days. We used them to count to five and introduce patterns.
I found this Gingerbread Baby Preschool Pack on Pinterest and thought it might contain some good ideas as well.

Dinosaur Christmas is a new purchase this year from the November Scholastic Seesaw Catalog. It has delightful illustrations and is perfect for a dinosaur loving toddler.

Holiday Plumbing Don'ts!
I know it's been over a week since Thanksgiving but maybe some of you still have some leftovers sitting in the fridge in some tupperware ready to be thrown out.
DO NOT put them down your garbage disposal! My husband and I were watching t.v. and they said this time of year is the busiest time of year for plumbers because all the silly mistakes people make while cooking so much food. Since my husband is a plumber (more of a pipe fitter, welder, but still a plumber) I get lectures of what not to do all the time I thought I would share a few simple rules he has shared with me.
DO NOT:
Do not put oil or any kind of grease down the your disposal. This will cause a messy build up you do not want to deal with.
Don't put egg shells down your disposal. Many people believe egg shells are good for a disposal that it is suppose to clean them or something, this is NOT true. This will actually cause a cement like build up in your disposal, and will be very expensive to fix.
Peel potatoes, yams, and anything else that you peel over your garbage can, NOT your garbage disposal. Sure a few peels here and there would be fine going down your disposal, but if you get too many down there the peels will cause a sticky paste and clog your disposal.
Leftover food in your fridge that needs to be cleaned out of your tupperware, throw out any food in the garbage BEFORE you clean the tupperware in the sink. If you don't need to put excess food down your disposal, then why would you? This will help keep those expensive plumbers away!
A helpful tip my husband taught me to keep your disposal smelling clean is to fill up both sides of your sink with soapy water after doing the dishes and letting the disposal run til the water is gone. It keeps it clean, and smelling fresh.
I hope these tips help your disposal make it through the holiday months!
